And that&#8217;s exactly what I&#8217;m recording for you today \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I typically stick to <a href=\"http:\/\/tcustomz.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hip Hop style beats,<\/a>\u00a0because, well&#8230; that&#8217;s what comes naturally to me. And even though I believe this track does contain\u00a0some Hip Hop elements (namely the drums), I still feel it would work better for an R&amp;B song, or even more like a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/kanye-west-type-beat-jamie-foxx-download\/\" target=\"_blank\">crossover Hip Hop beat like this one<\/a>. \u00a0And the fact that it&#8217;s piano-based and more of a smoother instrumental overall lends itself a little more to the r and b side.<\/p>\n<h2>The elements for this Original R&amp;B Instrumental (step-by-step)<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Drum break<\/strong> &#8211; I started with a really great royalty-free drum break to get the groove started. With additional processing including a basic high-pass filter to make room for <a href=\"http:\/\/tcustomz.com\/free-downloads.html\" target=\"_blank\">my own personal drum samples<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Main Piano<\/strong> &#8211; This is sort of a &#8220;dreamy&#8221; piano patch using one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/top-5-vst-plugins-hip-hop-music-beats\/\" target=\"_blank\">my current favorite VSTs<\/a>, Spectrasonics Omnisphere. I also rolled some of the bottom end off\u00a0as well. \u00a0Simple minor chord progression to carry the main melody of the beat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Main Synth<\/strong> &#8211; This track more or less follows the same progression as the keys, but\u00a0adds a much fuller and wider sound. Layering is great for achieving this effect!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Piano (secondary)<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Using the same patch from the previous piano track, I used this instrument to fill in the gaps as I experiments with some various piano runs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drums (kick, snare)<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0The\u00a0kick and snare sounds used in this beat are what give it somewhat of a hip hop feel. Crisp drums that smack you in the face, yet complement this style of darker soul instrumental very well.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strings<\/strong> &#8211; Somewhat subtle throughout most\u00a0of this instrumental, but the strings give another dimension of depth to the track. Great for taking up extra space and filling the track up even more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rhodes Piano<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0A\u00a0more electronic tone than the previous two piano tracks, but a great contrasting sound.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transition Synth<\/strong> &#8211; Simply a high lead synth that\u00a0I played a quick and easy riff with to make a cool transitional sound.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sub-bass<\/strong> &#8211; A straight forward, yet effective, bass line that simply follows the root note of the main chords. Nothing too complicated here \ud83d\ude42 If you like this bass sound, <a href=\"http:\/\/tcustomz.com\/hip-hop-bass-sample-pack.html\" target=\"_blank\">you might like this Hip Hop bass pack<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lead synth<\/strong> &#8211; An alternate high lead synth to really\u00a0fill up the higher frequency space and add a nice contrasting melody line.<\/li>\n<li><strong>FX Stabs<\/strong> &#8211; Some really smooth FX samples I added to spice the beat up even a bit more!
