{"id":7298,"date":"2015-10-20T20:52:23","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T20:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/?p=7298"},"modified":"2016-08-30T04:29:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T04:29:18","slug":"a3c-festival-conference-2015-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/a3c-festival-conference-2015-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"A3C Festival and Conference 2015 RECAP (Video + Pics!)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m fresh\u00a0back from\u00a0the <strong>2015 A3C Festival and Conference<\/strong>, and\u00a0I just put together\u00a0this\u00a0official recap video and article to elaborate on my personal experience this year \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wLpoggTLNOU\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While I was in Atlanta (October 7-11), I\u00a0did post some various showcases and event clips on <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/tcustomzproductionz\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tcustomz\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/tcustomz\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; for those of you who follow me there. I also was able to jump on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/periscope.tv\/tcustomz\" target=\"_blank\">Periscope<\/a>\u00a0one of the days just to kind of summarize my experience to that point.<\/p>\n<p>If you attended this year, you\u00a0know that there was a lot going on!\u00a0There were sometimes on the upwards of four to\u00a0five different panels,\u00a0performances,\u00a0showcases that were live simultaneously in different venues across\u00a0downtown Atlanta. And because of this, it\u00a0was essential to\u00a0prioritize your schedule each day to prevent potentially missing something you wanted to see.<\/p>\n<p>There were a lot of Hip Hoppers there\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0underground, <a href=\"http:\/\/tcustomz.com\/east-coast-beats.html\" target=\"_blank\">East Coast style<\/a> stuff\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0mainstream trap style\u00a0artists and performers, and pretty much everything in between.<\/p>\n<h4>Here&#8217;s a more detailed\u00a0run down on my\u00a0day-by-day experience at A3C Festival and Conference 2015<\/h4>\n<p>Pretty much every day, with the exception of Wednesday, was a full 12+ hour day.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Wednesday (Oct. 7)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Initial registration day. This was more or less a half day, but there were some various performances in the evening that were dope. Wednesday we got checked in, got the hotel situated\u00a0and\u00a0got the\u00a0all-access A3C wrist bands.<\/p>\n<p>Later that evening we attended the <strong><em>Tune Core Live Music Showcase<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; including\u00a0a number of independent artists, different styles and genres. The first one we attended was called\u00a0<em><strong>Creating Today\u2019s Creative Economy: How to Create Capital Stability for Your Creative Movement<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip of Keith Shocklee (Public Enemy)\u00a0@ 2:06]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">When you hear perspectives from this many different people established in the industry\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0whether they are independent,\u00a0with a label, or with some other company or service\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0but they serve some sort of role within the music community\u00a0&#8211; there&#8217;s\u00a0a lot of really great\u00a0information and value you can get out of attending one of these.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition, most (if not all of them)\u00a0opened up for a Q&amp;As. And\u00a0some of the panels were actually <em>all<\/em> Q&amp;A &#8211; and they\u00a0just opened up the floor for an hour or so.\u00a0That kind of stuff is really invaluable and I tried to find the balance of recording some of it and also just kind of experiencing some of it.<\/p>\n<p>Another panel we went to was <strong><em>Where Music and Tech Meet<\/em><\/strong>. They discussed\u00a0various\u00a0tools that you can use to help promote your music online and\u00a0a number of other great topics.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip of Chris Hicks\u00a0@ 3:00 (record executive\/artist manager: Timbaland, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, T.I., Usher and more)]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then later on, after a few of these music business panels, Dame Dash was scheduled to speak in a 1-on-1 style interview. A lot of\u00a0dope performances, too many really to name. \u00a0And we just\u00a0stayed out and listened to\u00a0to music and networked the rest of the night.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Friday\u00a0(Oct. 9)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Friday morning was a\u00a0panel called <em><strong>How to Make Money: Revenue Streams Available for Artists<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip at\u00a0@ 4:17]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And after\u00a0that panel was a\u00a0one-on-one conversation and interview with Ryan Leslie &#8211; where he was talking about his new application that enables the artist to\u00a0have the direct communication\u00a0and\u00a0direct relationship with their\u00a0customers, versus distributing through iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>He discussed\u00a0the new model for his &#8220;lifetime&#8221; album\u00a0and how he grossed $2 million as an independent artist without a label,\u00a0selling directly to the consumer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"wp-image-7308\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_0912-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Ryan Leslie (A3C 2015)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_0912-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tcustomz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_0912-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip of Ryan Leslie @ 5:03]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After the Ryan Leslie conversation was a 1-on-1 producer branding\u00a0panel including\u00a0The Alchemist and Oh-No\u00a0(Gangrene). While there was a lot of good information discussed, it would have also been good to hear some other producers\u00a0who are\u00a0newly established in the music game\u00a0and maybe would have had a different approach and angle of how they&#8217;ve been able to brand themselves. Overall it\u00a0was still dope.<\/p>\n<p>Next was a producer round table. It was a live interview with\u00a0five\u00a0different producers\u00a0and\u00a0Just Blaze was one of the notables there. There was a lot of great conversations\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0they talked about hardware and\u00a0software, about different stories and experiences from their career and more. Just Blaze\u00a0DJing,\u00a0plus other performed including Beanie Sigel, Freaky Zekey and more. Back in the day was a really big Dipset and\u00a0Heatmakerz fan,\u00a0so I was pretty excited to be able to experience that.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip of performances\u00a0@ 7:07]<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Saturday\u00a0(Oct. 10)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Saturday morning was a\u00a0panel called <em><strong>Managing\u00a0and\u00a0Utilizing Social Media in 2015<\/strong><\/em>. Ryan Leslie was the\u00a0headline speaker\u00a0and pretty much stole the show. \u00a0But you also had other panelists\u00a0speaking on how they built their clothing brand\u00a0and\u00a0how they built their graphic design brand through social media. This was probably one of my favorite panels that I attended.\u00a0Just a few of the producers on the panel included: Bink!, Denaun\/Mr. Porter (D12),\u00a0Diamond D,\u00a0AntMan Wonder and more.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of stuff got brought up about sample clearances, which I know is a big topic that I get questions about a lot. In addition, there were a lot of valuable conversations that got started. He&#8217;s one of my favorite producers in the game, and I got to talk to him for a minute\u00a0and\u00a0snap a pic. (A3C 2015)]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After the sampling panel, a\u00a0one-on-one interview with Rakim was schedule. \u00a0He wasn&#8217;t able to\u00a0show up for the interview in the afternoon,\u00a0and so Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds opened up the floor for a\u00a0Q&amp;A. There were some good\u00a0questions that were asked, as well as a number of really bad questions. It was even dubbed De La Soul day, as they were the headline performers. There were so many people that shared the stage that day. And I&#8217;m\u00a0sure I missed some of the names. But just to name a few of the performances besides De La were\u00a0Pete Rock, Rakim, The Alcoholics,\u00a0Talib Kweli\u00a0and A Tribe Called Quest. \u00a0Even though some of the acts got cut short due to the Atlanta noise ordinance, that was definitely one of the best overall shows just from start to finish in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Video clip of performances\u00a0@ 9:53]<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sunday (Oct. 11)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The last official day of the A3C Festival and Conference 2015.
